Ngobrol Bareng Alumni (NBA) first English Department UNS alumni-student’s talk show series

NBA from English Department Universitas Sebelas Maret held the first-ever virtual talk show entitled "Welcome to the Real Life: Survival Kit from ED Alumni" along with 4 alumni and 43 students on Sunday afternoon.

The talk show was conducted via Zoom with sub-topics such as, preparing a senior year in college, moments after graduation euphoria evaporates, identifying job opportunities, entry-level workers attitude, and overcoming challenged when shifting career track.

Rizqi Arifuddin (AMINEF Program Officer), Casandra Aleksia (ASEAN Secretariat Program Cooperation & Project Management Officer), Mahardhika Bekti (Ministry of Ristek/BRIN Government Auditor), and Alifa Irlinda (US Embassy Community Liaison Officer) shared their after-college stories, college life’s concerns and motivations in pursuing degree.

“As a graduate of the English Department, it is very versatile to pursue any career. So don’t mind other people’s comments about studying in the English Department,” said Alifa Irlinda in the talk show.

Students could ask about their concerns and had chances to know every alumnus’ suggestions of their problems in the 2 hours session.

Nurul Hidayah, one of ED students now in her 5th semester, said she now knows informations such as graduating on time, how to build a self profile, how to choose jobs according to our passion, job interview, overcoming problems in the workplace, and many more.

After the event ended, students filled a survey where they could write their review of the talk show and what topics they should discuss next meeting. NBA will continue its second episode in November with different topics.

“I really enjoyed the talk because it is very casual. I hope the second episode would talk about different job fields,” said Nurul.

Residents cooperate to pave the street

Residents of Griya Adi Jongkang housing estate cooperated to pave the street in their area on Sunday morning. Approximately 18 men teamed up to cover the holes on the road. "We paved the street due to a lot of concerns regarding the holes on the road. Many children bike in this area, and it may be dangerous for them," said Winarno, one of the residents, after paving the street.
