Vaccination is not an excuse for loosening social distancing

Throughout almost a year, the country has been battling with COVID-19 and we finally came to a phase where vaccines are already produced and tested. The vaccination step hopefully will minimize the increasing number of infected cases across the country. Corona vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech has received Halal certification from MUI and BPOM’s EUA, make it to be approved in Indonesia. The first stage of vaccination has been set from 13 January, where the President, Joko Widodo as the first person to be injected with Sinovac vaccine. However, with the promising result coming from Sinovac vaccine, 78% efficacy tested in Brazil, 91% in Turkey, citizens shouldn’t neglect the urgency of applying health protocol as if the vaccine could be a defense of human body from the disease. Sarangan lake back to normal despite COVID-19 pandemic

Sarangan lake still opens for visitors during the pandemic after its three months of opening trial starting from June till October when new normal began. The famous lake in Magetan city, Sarangan Lake, is a magnet to locals and nonlocals for its view of the greenish hill and clear lake. There are speedboats which visitors can rent to enjoy the lake’s surrounding as well. So it is not a surprise for many people to visit the tourist object. Ade, a visitor from Sukoharjo who visited on Sunday 24 October, said that she came with her friends to Sarangan Lake because of its chill and the speedboats. “I actually wanted to try the speedboat, but some of my friends couldn’t because they had nausea, so we were just enjoying the lake’s view and eating in the food stalls nearby,” stated Ade. Water scarcity causes farmers suffer losses

The water availability for irrigation in Cepoko, Magetan, became scarce as the previous dry season has made the river shrunk and almost dried up. It resulted in the planting period to be postponed. Even the farmers are suffering losses. “Some of the farmers and I have gone through the harvest period since August. However, due to the scarcity of water for irrigation, we have not been able to plant crops and are suffering losses,” said Hartono (50), one of the farmers. Since entering the transitional season, the low-intensity of rain has continued. However, the rainwater was still not enough to irrigate all of the farmers’ fields. According to Hartono, some of the farmers in Cepoko undertook odd jobs in other unaffected areas to earn income. Several farmers also sold their livestock as they needed money to survive. “There is no help from the government regarding the problem of water scarcity in our village. Hence, we can only hope it rains a lot soon,” added Hartono.
